Joint plan on social housing remediation

We’ve committed to government plans to accelerate the remediation of buildings which need cladding replacement and ensure our residents feel safer in their homes.

The joint plan on social housing remediation, to which we are signatories, is supported by more than £1 billion to give social landlords equal access to funding schemes.

As part of this plan, signatories have pledged to speed up work to assess and fix their buildings and to improve support to social tenants before, during and after remediation work.

It is backed by a new Remediation Bill that requires remediation of buildings taller than 18 metres to be completed by the end of 2029, with buildings between 11 and 18 metres having to be finished by the end of 2031.

Andy Mackay, director of building safety at Notting Hill Genesis, said:

“We support the government’s work to listen to and work with us on the remediation of buildings with cladding safety defects. Our objective has always been to ensure the safety of residents and their visitors and we have already completed work to 50 buildings. The joint plan sets out a clear and achievable framework for delivering remediation work and we’re pleased to be early signatories to this.”

Speaking about the joint plan, building safety and fire minister Alex Norris said: “We are determined to make buildings safe and protect residents. Since publishing our Remediation Acceleration Plan, we’ve made strong progress and this update goes further to drive accountability and remove barriers to speed up remediation.

“There is now a clear pathway to remediate every building with unsafe cladding. We expect everyone to play their part in giving residents and leaseholders the peace of mind that they deserve.”
