We are finding new ways to upskill and certify our people by pioneering a new qualification for housing officers.
We are one of the first members of the G15 to run a pilot of a new housing management qualification. Targeted at housing officers who have been in the role for a year or more, the new Innovate Level 4 Certificate in Senior Housing and Property Management looks to build on people’s existing knowledge and experience rather than focusing on theory alone.
The Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH) has always been at the forefront of offering qualifications for housing officers, and we will continue to support staff to obtain their CIH certificates. The new Innovate qualification gives our housing officers a choice and focuses less on testing knowledge and more on creating a portfolio of evidence that shows competence – in other words it demonstrates someone has the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to do a good job for our residents.
We are partnering with Kingdom Academy, a specialist learning provider with a focus on the social housing sector. Together we’ve created a tailored programme that reflects how we work, our processes and structures and our priorities. All the tutors have experience in the social housing field so will be able to offer real insight to learners.
We have always supported our staff to obtain their qualifications and ensuring we have professional staff seems more important than ever in light of the Social Housing Bill and the outcome of our regulatory judgement.
We want to lead the way in the breadth of options we offer to our staff and this new Level 4 qualification will increase the choice available to housing officers and demonstrate their professionalism to our residents.
The new Innovate qualification pilot is just one way we are investing in our people to ensure we offer a better service to our residents.
Once the pilot is completed, we are hoping to expand the programme and launch more cohorts.
