We are delighted to be a founder member of the Green Spaces Advisory Board which has launched its model on how green spaces can work better for residents and be more sustainable.
The board is made up of members and representatives from seven key housing associations to unlock the potential of green spaces. Being part of it is a fantastic opportunity to further develop our work in both placemaking and sustainability.
The model, launched on the 28 November, gives recommendations on engaging with communities, empowering individuals and fostering a sense of ownership over green spaces. You can read it in full here or take a look at the webinar, featuring our head of sustainability Laura Shellard.
Green spaces offer far more than just aesthetics; they serve as essential hubs for social interactions, recreational activities and environmental preservation. Through their research the board has found that by carefully designing, maintaining and engaging with these spaces, we can create environments that encourage residents to:
- Connect with nature
- Form bonds with their neighbours
- Experience an improved quality of life and positive effect on mental health
By restoring and enhancing nature we can address the climate change emergency while improving physical and mental wellbeing for our residents.
