Welcoming our latest resident board member

Notting Hill Genesis resident Symmie Swil has been appointed a non-executive director on our group board to help ensure our customers have a real influence at the most senior level of the organisation and that their needs are at the forefront of our work.

Symmie is currently COO at Finverity and brings over 15 years of experience across corporate finance and operational leadership. She has experience leading organisational and digital change to reduce costs and improve customer experience as Deputy COO at Investec’s Corporate Investment Bank and as Head of Business Banking at Starling Bank.

Her property experience includes advising residential property developers on acquisitions and fundraising in her eight years in corporate finance, as well as bringing first-hand insights as a Notting Hill Genesis resident.

Symmie said: “Not-for-profit housing providers like Notting Hill Genesis can make a huge positive impact on residents, their families and wider communities. I see daily the importance of the environments they create and I’m looking forward to using my skills and experience to help the business achieve its ambitious Better Together targets and deliver the best possible services to residents.”

While we welcome Symmie to the board, we also sadly say goodbye to another resident board member, Arike Oke, who is stepping down after more than three years on the board.

Arike was also member of our development and sales committee and the Resident Voices group.

Outside of Notting Hill Genesis, she is executive director of knowledge and collections at the British Film Institute, a heritage committee member at BAFTA and a board member at both The National Archives and the Institute of International Visual Arts.

Ian Ellis, chair of Notting Hill Genesis, said: “It’s always exciting to welcome a new resident board member to the group, with fresh eyes and new approaches to maximising the opportunities we have and tackling the challenges we face. I look forward to working with Symmie to better understand the diverse needs of our residents to serve them better.

“At the same time, we are very sad to be losing Arike from our group board. Her knowledge, experience and insightful views have always been hugely appreciated by us all. We thank her for everything she’s done for us and wish her all the best for the future.”
